Transfer a domain without losing a day of uptime.
Move your domain name to EnsureDomains in a few guided steps. Your remaining time carries over, a year is added to your registration, and your site and email keep running throughout.
Four steps to transfer a domain
Transferring a domain is a standard, registrar-to-registrar process. You stay in control the whole way — nothing moves without your authorization code and your approval.
- 01
Unlock your domain
Sign in to your current registrar and turn off the registrar lock (sometimes called transfer lock). A locked domain can't be moved.
- 02
Get your authorization code
Request the authorization code — also known as the EPP or auth code — from your current registrar. It proves you own the name and unlocks the transfer.
- 03
Start the transfer here
Enter your domain, paste in the authorization code, and check out. One year is added to your registration as part of the move.
- 04
Approve and you're done
Confirm the transfer from the email sent to your registrant or admin contact. Most transfers complete in about five days.
One year added, your remaining time kept
A transfer is priced like a one-year registration of your extension — and that year stacks on top of whatever time is already left on your domain. No time is lost in the move.
- Remaining registration time carries over.
- Full domain management included once it lands.
- Keep your existing DNS so nothing goes dark.
Domain Registration · .com
Includes a one-year extension on the transferred domain. Other extensions are priced by their registry.
Final price may differ because of registry fees and promotions. Auto-renews until cancelled.
Full domain management, included
Once your domain lands at EnsureDomains, you get the same management tools that ship with every name we register — all from one control panel.
Domain locking
Prevents accidental or intentional transfers of ownership and stops anyone from redirecting your nameservers.
Total DNS control
Manage your nameserver (DNS) records and set email, FTP, sub-domains, and website location from one control panel.
Domain forwarding & masking
Direct any domain you own to your website so anyone who types it into a browser lands on your site.
Change of registration
Assign your domain to someone else or update the contacts on your domain online, anytime.
Status alerts
Monitor the status of your domain and get instant alerts the moment anything changes.
Auto renew protection
Auto renew keeps your domains, hosting, and other products in your name and under your control — no missed expiration dates.
Bring your names under one roof
Consolidating from several registrars, taking over a client's domain, or just want everything in one dashboard — a transfer puts your names, hosting, and email in the same place.
- Agencies consolidating client domains into one billing account
- Owners scattered across multiple registrars who want one login
- Teams pairing a domain with EnsureDomains hosting and email
Before you start, check that
A transfer can only proceed when the domain meets the registry's standard requirements.
- Your domain has been registered, and not transferred between registrars, within the transfer lock window set by ICANN.
- The registrar lock is turned off at your current provider.
- You have the current authorization (EPP) code for the domain.
- The registrant and admin contact email can receive the approval message.
ICANN applies a transfer lock to newly registered or recently transferred domains. If your name is inside that window, it can't be moved between registrars until the window passes.

Bring your domains without losing a beat
Move your domains to EnsureDomains and run them alongside your hosting and email from a single dashboard. Because a transfer changes who manages the name and not your DNS, your existing nameserver records stay in place — so your site and email keep working while the move completes.
- Manage your domains, hosting, and email under one login
- Keep your current DNS so your site and email stay live
- Your remaining time carries over and a year is added
Frequently asked questions
How do I transfer a domain to EnsureDomains?
Unlock the domain at your current registrar, request the authorization (EPP) code, then start the transfer here and pay. You finish by approving the confirmation email sent to your registrant or admin contact. Most transfers complete in about five days.
What is an authorization or EPP code?
It's a unique code your current registrar gives you that authorizes a transfer. The gaining registrar needs it to begin moving the domain. Without it, the transfer can't start.
Will I lose the time left on my current registration?
No. The time remaining on your domain carries over, and a one-year registration is added on top as part of the transfer.
Is there downtime during a domain transfer?
A transfer changes which registrar manages your domain, not your DNS records on its own. As long as your existing nameservers and DNS settings stay in place, your website and email keep working through the move.
Why can't I transfer a domain I just registered?
ICANN applies a transfer lock to newly registered or recently transferred domains. Until that window passes, the domain can't be moved between registrars — this is a registry-level rule, not a provider restriction.
How much does it cost to transfer a domain?
A transfer is priced like a one-year registration of that extension, and that year is added to your remaining time. A .com, for example, is the same rate shown on our domain registration product.
